Dear Clients,
In the American judicial system, there are two categories of judgments: those resulting from a defendant’s guilty plea and those determined after formal legal proceedings.
In cases where the accused pleads guilty, the matter is considered settled, and the judge will then determine the appropriate sentence. For instance, Gordon Brad Beckstead, a 57-year-old resident of Henderson, Nevada, recently entered a guilty plea, and the maximum sentence that he could receive is 20 years in prison.
A guilty plea typically results in a reduced sentence. Moreover, if all defendants plead guilty, there is no question of their culpability, and the court will award damages irrespective of the length of the sentence handed down.
It is important to note that once a final verdict has been made, claims for compensation are no longer accepted. Therefore, it is crucial for individuals to submit their claims in a timely manner during the legal proceedings.
An attorney can oversee and manage the compensation request process on behalf of their client.
