The First Success of the “Cyber Guard” Platform – An Important Step in Combating Online Fraud

Dear Clients,

The Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Serbia recently announced the first successful case resolved through the national “Cyber Guard” platform, resulting in the suspension of a fraudulent website and the identification of a suspect. According to the authorities, the case involved a fake online sale of air conditioners, through which at least 35 citizens were allegedly defrauded.

According to the information released by the Ministry, following a report submitted through the “Cyber Guard” platform, the relevant authorities analyzed the website and identified indicators suggesting that it had been used for fraudulent purposes. Through the coordinated efforts of the competent institutions, the fraudulent domain was suspended, and the investigation ultimately led to the arrest of the suspected perpetrator.

Although this case does not involve an investment fraud scheme, it represents an encouraging example of how timely reporting by victims can contribute to identifying those responsible, preventing further harm to other individuals, and gathering additional evidence. It also demonstrates the importance of cooperation between citizens and law enforcement authorities in combating cyber-enabled crime.

The Ministry further emphasized that every report may be valuable, even where an investigation has already been initiated. Additional information can assist authorities in identifying further victims, linking related cases, and collecting evidence that may prove relevant during the course of an investigation.

This case serves as a reminder that reporting online fraud is important not only for the protection of one’s own interests, but also for helping protect others and supporting the work of the competent authorities. Documents, communications, transaction records, and other information preserved by victims may become valuable when considered together with evidence collected from other affected individuals.

We will continue to monitor important developments in the field of online fraud and keep you informed of any news that may be relevant to the protection of your rights.
