As previously reported, the criminal complaint concerning the Jubilee matter is still being prepared for submission to the competent authorities in Sweden. At present, there is no new procedural development requiring action from our clients.

While this work continues, we would like to address an important feature of cases such as Jubilee: why information emerging in one country may become relevant to proceedings in another.

Investment fraud rarely follows national borders

An investor may live in one country, communicate with individuals located in another, transfer funds to an account elsewhere and receive documentation connected with a company registered in yet another jurisdiction.

For victims, these may initially appear to be separate pieces of information. When information from multiple victims and jurisdictions is compared, however, connections may begin to emerge.

The same company, individual, bank account, payment provider, telephone number or other identifying detail may appear in more than one place.

Why can proceedings in other countries matter?

The existence of proceedings or information in another jurisdiction does not automatically establish the facts of a case in Sweden.

However, developments elsewhere may potentially provide additional information about persons, companies, transactions or financial relationships that are also relevant to the matter being presented to the Swedish authorities.

This is particularly important in cases involving Jubilee, Jenco and GTR, where the broader factual background is not necessarily confined to a single country.

For this reason, international cases should not always be viewed as a collection of completely separate national proceedings. Information established in one jurisdiction may sometimes help clarify part of the wider picture.

What does this mean for the Swedish complaint?

Our immediate priority remains the completion and formal submission of the criminal complaint in Sweden.

The complaint will be based on the information and documentation available and relevant to the matter. If further significant information emerges from another jurisdiction at a later stage, its relevance can then be assessed separately.

At present, no additional action is required from our clients, and there is no need to resend documentation already provided.

We will inform you once the Swedish criminal complaint has been formally submitted.
