How to Preserve Evidence of a Scam and Why It Matters
Dear Clients,
After becoming a victim of a scam like the ProCap platform, preserving evidence is one of the most important steps you can take. Good and organized evidence forms the foundation for any successful legal process and significantly increases your chances of compensation.
Here’s what you should keep:
- All messages and emails exchanged with platform representatives or other involved parties — whether SMS, emails, messages on social networks, or messaging apps.
- Proof of payments and transactions — receipts, confirmations, bank statements, and any other documents showing how much money you invested or transferred.
- Screenshots from websites and platform apps, especially if you captured fake profit displays or notifications.
- Testimonies of other victims — if you know other victims or have their contacts, save their statements and information, as this can be useful in the investigation.
Why is this important?
When a criminal complaint or any other legal proceeding is initiated, your lawyer will use this evidence to prove the existence of the scam and the damage you suffered. Without clear and complete evidence, the process can be much harder or even unsuccessful.
Our advice is to keep your documents in a safe place and, if possible, make backup copies in multiple locations (e.g., USB drive, cloud storage). Also, do not delete anything, even messages that seem insignificant.
