Grand Pacific Trade Call Center Scam Newsletter No. 78
Dear Clients,
Why Scammers Ask You to Install Remote Access Apps – and What It Really Means
One of the increasingly common patterns in investment scams is the request for victims to install remote access applications such as AnyDesk or TeamViewer.
At first glance, the explanation may seem harmless – assistance with registration, technical support, account verification, or help with making the investment process “easier.” However, the real purpose is often very different.
By granting remote access, third parties may gain visibility into your personal data, access your email account, assist in opening cryptocurrency exchange accounts, and even monitor or guide transaction authorization steps. In some cases, this creates the impression that the victim remains in control of the process, while in reality every step is being directed by someone else.
A particularly important issue arises later when questions of liability and transaction authorization are examined, as banks and financial institutions may point out that access to the device was voluntarily granted. This is why it is important to understand that so-called “technical assistance” in these situations is often part of the fraud mechanism itself.
It is important to know that legitimate banks, regulated investment firms, and official institutions will not ask you to install remote access software in order to help you invest or recover funds.
If you have allowed such access in the past, this does not mean that you have lost your right to legal protection. On the contrary, this may become an important part of the evidence showing how the fraud was carried out.
Understanding the methods scammers use is often the first step in preventing further damage.
As always, we will continue to keep you informed about all relevant developments and next steps.
