Dear Clients,

As we have informed you, the case has been returned for a supplementary investigation, which is an important and necessary step in the further course of the criminal proceedings.

A supplementary investigation is a phase in which the prosecutor’s office and investigative authorities continue gathering additional evidence and information. This happens when the initial investigation did not provide a clear and complete picture of the events or when there are uncertainties regarding certain facts. In short, when it is determined that there are “gaps” in the evidence or it is necessary to verify new circumstances, a supplementary investigation is initiated.

Why is this important? Without a complete and thorough investigation, the prosecutor’s office cannot prepare an indictment that will be solid and indisputable in court. If the indictment is not sufficiently precise or the evidence is unclear, there is a risk that the proceedings will be prolonged or may not result in the expected legal outcome.

During the supplementary investigation, new witnesses may be interviewed, additional financial and digital traces examined, and connections between suspects and other persons or organizations verified. All these activities require time and detailed analysis to successfully conclude the case.

Although waiting can feel frustrating, it is important to be patient and understand that the supplementary investigation is not a sign of failure but quite the opposite — an indication that the process is being conducted thoroughly and seriously. This is the phase in which solid foundations are laid for continuing the legal process and, ultimately, for achieving justice and possible compensation for the victims.

If you have any additional questions or need assistance regarding the collection of evidence and documentation, we are at your disposal.

Kind regards,
Attorney Zoran Miljaković
