Bitclub Newsletter No. 205
Dear Clients,
In our previous updates, we discussed Christopher Scanlon’s request concerning restrained property and explained why the release of certain assets would not automatically result in compensation for BitClub Network victims.
This week, we would like to address another important question:
Does the dismissal of criminal charges against one defendant mean that all legal issues arising from the BitClub Network case have been resolved?
The answer is no.
Criminal proceedings and victims’ financial interests are separate legal questions
In July 2026, the criminal charges against Matthew Goettsche were dismissed. However, the dismissal of charges against one defendant does not automatically resolve every legal issue connected with the wider BitClub Network matter.
Criminal proceedings primarily concern the responsibility of individuals accused of criminal conduct. Questions involving property, competing ownership claims, and potential compensation for victims may be governed by different legal rules and procedures.
For this reason, a decision ending criminal proceedings against a particular defendant should not automatically be interpreted as a decision resolving all outstanding financial matters.
Why is this distinction important for BitClub Network victims?
The BitClub Network proceedings have involved several defendants and different procedural issues.
A development affecting one defendant does not necessarily determine the legal position of other individuals or resolve separate questions concerning property and potential recovery.
At the same time, the existence of unresolved legal questions does not guarantee that additional proceedings will take place or that funds will ultimately be recovered.
What happens next?
At present, we have not identified a new verified decision on Christopher Scanlon’s request that would change the status previously communicated to our clients.
We will continue to follow relevant Court developments and assess whether any future decisions have practical consequences for BitClub Network victims.
If a significant development occurs, we will explain what has changed, how it may affect our clients, and whether any further action is necessary.
For now, no additional action is required from our clients.
Thank you for your continued trust.
Kind regards,
Attorney Zoran Miljaković
