As it is evident, the primary defendant, Matthew Brent Goettsche, is currently choosing to defend himself and is not accepting the offered plea deal with the court. This implies that he does not wish to admit guilt at this time. From a legal standpoint, this decision may be considered unfavorable, considering the possibility of a lengthy prison sentence, especially since his assets are already frozen.
Such actions prolong the duration of this proceeding, which could have already been concluded if the defendant had admitted guilt or reached a plea deal with the court. Additionally, it should be noted that the prosecution and the court will be required to invest significant efforts and resources in processing additional evidence, further extending the duration of the trial.
However, the positive aspect of this situation is that the assets are already frozen, meaning there is no risk of their reduction or transfer during the trial.
