Cybercrime Southeast Europe Newsletter No. 19
Cybercrime Southeast Europe
Dear Clients,
Over the past week, we have received an increased number of calls from victims of a scam known as phishing. Scammers have been very active.
Phishing is a type of internet fraud in which scammers try to deceive users into revealing personal information, such as usernames, passwords, credit card numbers, and other sensitive data. They usually do this by sending fake emails or creating fake websites that appear legitimate.
Phishing scams can include:
- Fake emails: Scammers send emails that appear to be from trusted sources, such as banks, social networks, or other well-known companies. These emails often contain links to fake websites.
- Fake websites: Scammers create websites that look identical to legitimate sites of well-known companies. When users enter their information on these sites, the scammers steal it.
- Email attachments: Emails may contain malicious attachments that, when opened, install malware on the user’s device, allowing scammers to access their information.
- SMS messages: Scams can also occur via SMS messages, which prompt users to click on links or disclose their information.
To protect yourself from phishing scams, it is important to be cautious with emails and messages from unknown senders, check URL addresses before entering any personal data, and use two-factor authentication whenever possible.
Sincerely,
Attorney Zoran Miljaković
